For many high school seniors, the fall will bring new colleges and universities as they move toward their eventual career goals. But thousands of students--and the number is growing-- will hit pause on their academic pursuits and take what is known as a gap year. Then, it's estimated some 36 million adults in the United States are trying to make it with reading abilities of a grade school student or lower. The effort to combat adult low literacy rates.
