Wood County, located in northeast Ohio, was founded in April of 1820 and named in honor of Captain Eleazer Darby Wood, an engineer in the War of 1812 and constructed Fort Meigs. Bowling Green is the county seat and the current Wood County Courthouse was built in 1896.
