While it was added to in 1877, the core structure of the Meigs County Courthouse in Pomeroy was built in 1846. As it stands today, it is the only courthouse to have street entrances to all three stories of the building. This is because it was built into the side of a hill. Meigs County was formed in 1819 and is in southeastern Ohio, with the Ohio River as its southern border.
