Ashtabula County, organized in 1811, is the most northeastern county in Ohio. There are nineteen covered bridges in Ashtabula County, including the longest and shortest covered bridge in America. The oldest building in the group of buildings dedicated to Ashtabula's court system was built in 1850. The town of Jefferson is the county seat.
