Segment 1: Blood, we need it to survive, but we don't think much about it. Did you know approximately 40,000 pints of blood are used each day in the United States? Every few seconds someone needs blood. January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month and a great time to learn more about blood, the need for it and the donation process. Rodney Wilson, the communications manager with the Central Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, and Leah Santalucia, the supervisor of the Office of Volunteers and Community Resources, also with the Central Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross, describe why it is important to become a blood donor now.
Segment 2: This year the theme of the White House Christmas tree was "American Landmarks," and ten Ohio landmarks were proudly displayed on the tree. The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging in Mansfield was chosen out of hundreds of agencies across the country to decorate ornaments for the tree; each one paying tribute to a noteworthy building or site with historical significance or cultural importance in Ohio. Duana Patton, the executive director of the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc., and Sally Blue, one of the artists and a care manager with the Area Agency on Aging, describe what this project entailed.
