Writers Talk - Donald Ray Pollock

Play

Donald Ray Pollock spent 32 years working for a paper mill in Chillicothe, Ohio. He started writing at age 45, and at the age of 50 entered graduate school at Ohio State University. Pollock says he sees the world as a "sad, violent, troubled place" and was never able to pull off writing what he considers a "nice story." The grit and violence found in "Knockemstiff" - his collection of short stories - continues in his first novel, "The Devil All The Time." The author joins Writers Talk to discuss his latest work of fiction and his controversial portrayal of southern Ohio.
