The State of Ohio - "Second-Chance Bill"

HEADLINES: The Speaker of the House wants to know why sex offenders are teachers in Ohio's public schools. The Senate votes to ban electronic gaming machines. Strippers' petition drive isn't enough.

ROUNDTABLE SEGMENT: Two Ohio Democrats have proposed bills that they say will help ex-felons get jobs and stay out of prison. Sen. Shirley Smith of Cleveland says her "second chance bill" would allow non-violent repeat offenders who haven't been in trouble for five years to have their criminal records sealed. Sen. Lance Mason's bill would allow employers to get a $2400 tax credit for each felon they hire. Terry Collins is the director of the department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, and his support of the "second chance bill" could give it the momentum it would need to get to the floor. But business leaders are among those who are concerned about the "second chance bill". Ty Pine is the legislative director of the Ohio chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business.
