The State of Ohio - Regionalism; Ohio Ladies' Gallery

HEADLINES: The measure to repeal Ohio's new crackdown on payday lenders isn't even on the ballot yet, and the battle over is has already begun. Another issue likely headed for the fall ballot is the plan to require businesses with more than 25 employees to provide seven paid sick days a year. Voters will also decide on the $1.57 billion jobs package that was approved and signed by the governor.

ROUNDTABLE SEGMENT: Regionalism is a concept that's been around for many years, but is enjoying a renaissance in tight budget times. It's been a big topic in northeast Ohio, where mayors and city managers of 57 communities in 16 counties have been working for years on a regional strategy to share tax resources and safety forces, and combine strengths to compete for new jobs and development. But there are some who have concerns that regionalism can marginalize certain groups, especially minority communities. Here to talk about the issue of regionalism are three experts on it: William Currin is the mayor of Hudson and the chairman of the Northeast Ohio Mayors and City Managers Association; John Mahoney is the deputy director of the Ohio Municipal League; and professor John Powell is the executive director of the Kirwin Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at Ohio State University and has written extensively about regionalism.

FEATURE SEGMENT: Once women got the constitutional right to vote in 1920, a handful of Ohio women wasted no time in running for office - and winning. A new Statehouse exhibit honors the half-dozen women who took the right to vote and ran with it - all the way to the Statehouse.
