The State of Ohio - Ohio Execution Record

Ohio has eclipsed its own one year execution record by putting an eighth killer to death this week. Polls are continuing to show the race for governor is a much closer contest than suggested a few weeks ago. Newly released campaign finance reports in the governor's race show John Kasich is leading there too.

The first week of early voting in Ohio is in the books, with no major problems, and the same can be said of the so-called golden week where voters can register and vote at the same time - which drew so much controversy two years ago. Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner talks about early voting.

This was debate week in Ohio, with almost every candidate for statewide office meeting up with his or her opponent in a public event - or invited to do so. The week started with the first of three debates in the US Senate race in eight days. Republican Rob Portman and Democrat Lee Fisher met in Toledo on Monday, and in Cleveland on Friday, and will debate again on Tuesday. The candidates for governor also met in their final debate Thursday night in Toledo.

And the candidates for auditor and secretary of state also met in debates sponsored by the Ohio News Network, which also produced a debate in a race that's gotten very little attention - the race to be one of the six associate justices on the Ohio Supreme Court. Democrat Mary Jane Trapp is trying to unseat Republican Judith Lanzinger. And the candidates running for chief justice - Republican Maureen O'Connor and Democrat Eric Brown - also met in a debate at Cleveland State University's Marshall College of Law.
