The State of Ohio - Golden Week Voting

It may be a just a worst-case scenario, but it's a scary one for many people in Ohio. Gov. Ted Strickland has compiled a worst-case budget document that envisions cuts as high as 25% to state agencies to deal with a projected budget deficit of $7.3 billion. Pollsters are also looking ahead to 2010 and asking which candidates will do well.

It's been a busy week for state lawmakers trying to push through some last-minute bills before two-year the session ends. Among those is a bill to help deal with the mortgage meltdown. Marion Gardner of Cleveland brought pictures to show lawmakers her devastated neighborhood, as they consider a bill that was created in part by Cuyahoga County treasurer Jim Rokakis, which creates a government land bank that allows homes to be bought and rehabbed or demolished.

One state official is wrapping up 2008 by doing something he never would have expected a year ago. Richard Cordray is preparing to move out of the treasurer's office after less than two years. And he's is moving into an office he ran for a decade ago, and lost, but won a few weeks ago.
