Charles F. Kettering was an accomplished inventor with over 300 patents in his name. His inventions include the first electric cash register, the electric self-starter for automobiles, no-knock Ethyl gasoline, four-wheel brakes, and safety glass. Kettering founded the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company in 1909 and was a co-founder of the Engineers' Club of Dayton in 1914. He served as director for research at General Motors Corporation from 1920 to 1947. In 1955, the city of Kettering was founded in his honor. Kettering passed away in 1958 leaving a legacy of inventions that continue to be used today.
