Play

COLUMBUS-State Representative Cheryl Grossman (R-Grove City) held a press conference on House Bill 544, naming September as Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month. Parkinson's Disease is neurodegenerative brain disorder that usually progresses slowly throughout the body with increasingly uncomfortable symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, and balance problems. Although the disease itself is not fatal, the Center for Disease Control has ranked complications from this disease as the 14th top killer of people in the United States. The month of September was chosen as it corresponds with "Moving Day," on which events are held to increase Parkinson's awareness and encourage those with the disease to exercise and move to help alleviate some of their symptoms.
