Finer With Age - Expanded Homestead Exemption

You may recall that on the March program we discussed the Homestead Exemption. On this program, we are going to revisit this topic, as much has changed. On June 30, Governor Strickland signed into law new guidelines for the Homestead program which eliminated income eligibility guidelines. Now, any homeowner who resides in the home for which they are applying, who is 65 or older or who is totally and permanently disabled is eligible for a partial property tax exemption.

Guests:
Ohio Tax Commissioner Richard Levin
Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith

POSITIVE-AGING SEGMENT:
Ohio residents age 60 or older are invited to enrich their lives, expand their minds and experience the fun of being on campus again. By state law, all Ohio residents age 60 and older may attend classes at state-funded colleges and universities at no cost. While different schools may call their programs by different names - Program 60, Senior Audit, 60-plus, SAGE - the goal is the same, to promote lifelong personal improvement and community involvement. Each year, hundreds of central Ohio seniors take advantage of Program 60 at The Ohio State University. Students, like Tom and Lee Ann Boughman sit in on all types of courses, not only learning, but also sharing their life experiences with their younger classmates.
