Election Roundup:

Ohio voters soundly rejected state government's attempt to rein in the power of public employee unions. Failure of Issue Two repealed Republican-backed collective bargaining restrictions. But the same group of voters approved Issue Three, a constitutional amendment that might have future impact on the sale of health insurance in Ohio.

Voters approved less than half the school levies on ballots in northeast Ohio. They were generally okay with levy renewals, but tended to vote down tax increases. In South Euclid, voters cleared the way for commercial development at the former Oakwood Country Club and in Solon gave their okay for a city program to thin out the deer herd.

East Cleveland became the first city in the country to approve the use of red light cameras. Voting to remove such cameras is the norm elsewhere and that's what happened in Garfield Heights, South Euclid and Ashtabula.

Football Legend Fired:

The 46 year reign of Joe Paterno is over at Penn State. University trustees fired the game's winningest coach and university president Graham Spanier for their failings in an unfolding sex scandal. Trustees accused Paterno and Spanier of ignoring the excesses of a former assistant coach who's charged with sexually abusing young boys.

Col. Edward Horvath, Medical Corps, U.S. Army Reserve:

Dr. Horvath is just back in the U.S. following his third tour of duty in Iraq where he received the Bronze Star for exceptionally meritorious service in a combat zone. Horvath visited with Feagler last year after saving the life of a soldier badly injured in a training accident and we invited him for a return visit upon completing his latest tour.
