Feagler and Friends - Longtime Journalists Still Telling Stories

Three veteran journalists discuss their fascinating lives on the beat:

Doris O'Donnell blazed a trail in Cleveland becoming the first woman to achieve star reporter status at the old Cleveland News, The Plain Dealer and other newspapers. In a 50-year career that began in 1944, she covered the murder of Marilyn Sheppard and the subsequent trial of her husband Sam Sheppard. She covered the assassinations of John and Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. She later wrote about her exploits in the book Front Page Girl.

Russell Schneider spent 32 years as a sportswriter for The Plain Dealer covering the Indians in the bad old days and the Browns in the days of fading glory. Later he turned to writing books, totaling an even dozen. These include The Cleveland Indians Encyclopedia and The Glorious Indian Summer of 1995. He is a member of three journalism halls of fame.

Violet Spevack continues to write her weekly Cavalcade column for the Cleveland Jewish News even though she turned 95 in July. She's been covering the social scene for the newspaper since 1965 and has made her column a must-read for CJN subscribers. She is a graduate of Glenville High School and a founding member, along with husband David, of Temple Emanu-El.
