Feagler and Friends - Lions, Tigers, Bears & Issue 2

Newsmaker:

Steve Taylor, director, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo:

Sheriff's deputies in Muskingum County shot and killed most of the exotic animals released by their former owner shortly before he committed suicide. It was believed to be the largest escape of exotic animals in U.S. history. Questions remain over why Ohio law does not prohibit private ownership of such animals and how the Zanesville-area owner acquired so many.

Roundtable:

Kevin O'Brien, editorial writer, The Plain Dealer; M.L. Schultze, news director, WKSU; Greg Saber, freelance journalist.

Dangerous Animals:

The roundtable continues the conversation about this week's exotic animal scare in Muskingum County.

Issue 2:

At least two major Ohio newspapers have endorsed State Issue Two, calling for a 'yes' vote that would retain the controversial Senate Bill 5. It imposes limitations on collective bargaining for public employees. The Plain Dealer says rejecting Issue 2 would lock in a status quo biased in favor of public employee unions. The Columbus Dispatch says upholding SB5 is essential to the fiscal health of state and local governments.

Primary Secondary to Politics:

Opponents of a Republican-drawn Congressional redistricting map are gathering petition signatures to take the issue to the voters next November. If the referendum drive is successful, Ohio's spring 2012 primary is potentially in limbo. Majority Republicans are considering their options; among them, a revised redistricting map and/or dual primaries.
