Casino Deal

Dan Gilbert's Rock Gaming has agreed to ante up millions more for the privilege of operating casinos in Cleveland and Cincinnati. Gilbert and Governor Kasich announced the landmark agreement in Cleveland this week, clearing the way for work to begin anew on converting the former Higbee's store to a gaming palace. The agreement also lays the groundwork for horse tracks to bring in slot machines.

Gun Law Relaxed

Ohioans with concealed carry permits will be allowed to take their guns along when they enter bars or other establishments that serve alcohol. Gun owners won't be allowed to drink as long as they're armed and bars are free to banish guns if they wish. Despite that, critics say the law invites trouble in places where alcohol-fueled violence is common.

Judge Judged Guilty

A federal court jury found Cuyahoga County judge Steven Terry guilty of corruption charges this week, a verdict leading to possible prison time and the end of Terry's judicial career. Terry was one of many netted in the long-running Cuyahoga County corruption probe. He helped fix a foreclosure case at the request of former County Auditor Frank Russo. After the Terry verdict, federal prosecutors released wiretap recordings in which Russo, former County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora and others discussed political deals in often profane language.

GOP Debate

Seven Republican presidential hopefuls met for their first nationally-broadcast debate in New Hampshire. The candidates sparred little with each other, instead reserving their most strident criticism for President Obama. Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann sounded the theme of the night with a guarantee that Obama would be a one-term President.

Newsmaker: Doris O'Donnell, author, Front Page Girl

The retired Cleveland journalist joins Mr. Feagler on the occasion of her 90th birthday to look back at her 58 years in the newspaper business in which she blazed new trails for female reporters. In an era where women were relegated to the society pages, O'Donnell covered hard news, including the Sheppard murder case, Ted Kennedy's Chappaquiddick adventures and the assassinations of John F. and Bobby Kennedy.
