Feagler and Friends - Gun Fight at the Supreme Court

Roundtable:

Henry Gomez, reporter, The Plain Dealer; Bill Sheil, weekend anchor, Fox 8 News.

Sowell's Defense:

Defense attorneys for accused serial killer Anthony Sowell are running up quite a tab. So far, the billable hours add up to $150-thousand and could go much higher. Mitigation experts who'll amass evidence designed to forestall the death penalty are a big part of the overall cost. Judge Dick Ambrose is trying to limit the tab, but lawyers experienced in criminal cases warn that too tight a rein could be grounds for appeal.

Questions for the Prosecutor:

The Plain Dealer reported this week that Cuyahoga County prosecutor Bill Mason has accepted campaign contributions from several people indicted in the county corruption probe. The newspaper also published an allegation by coroner Frank Miller that the prosecutor ordered him to hire a Mason associate for a key job in the coroner's office.

Gun Fight at the Supreme Court:

lawyers for the city of Cleveland and state of Ohio made oral arguments before the Ohio Supreme Court this week in a case that seeks to establish who should call the shots when it comes to gun control laws. Cleveland wants to impose gun measures stricter than the state's but the state says home rule on guns will result in a crazy quilt of regulations difficult for gun owners to follow.

Special Guests:

U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Edward Horvath is of an age where he could retire to the golf course. Instead, the Army doctor from Bay Village is preparing to leave for his third tour of duty in Iraq where he'll help coordinate medical care for military personnel and civilians wounded as a result of combat operations. One of the reason's Horvath is returning to Iraq is Specialist Christopher Fraser, a soldier whose life Horvath saved in early 2008. We'll meet them both on Feagler & Friends.
