Feagler and Friends - Guest Kathleen Kennedy Townsend

Newsmaker: Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, author of Failing America's Faithful: How Today's Churches are Mixing God with Politics and Losing Their Way.

She is the eldest daughter of Robert F. and Ethel Kennedy and made a political name for herself as the first woman Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. Now, she's taking on America's churches in a new book that says many religious leaders have overstepped their pastoral roles by getting involved in politics. Too many, she says, are preaching fear and intolerance instead of love and charity. Townsend grew up as a member of America's best-known Catholic family and she says she learned at an early age that being religious meant being part of a community - service was not only to the church, but to everyone in need. Now, she accuses the Catholic church of abandoning its core mission as advocate for human rights.

She'll talk with Mr. Feagler about her book and about life with 10 brothers and sisters in America's best-known political family.
