Feagler and Friends - Cuyahoga County Board of Elections

Newsmaker: Reverend Elizabeth Eaton, Bishop, Northeast Ohio Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America: For the first time, northeast Ohio Evangelical Lutherans have a woman as Bishop. Rev. Eaton was installed over the weekend. She grew up in Cleveland's West Park neighborhood. She'll discuss with Mr. Feagler what it's like to break through the stained glass ceiling and the challenges facing Lutherans and other mainline denominations.

Board of Elections Shake-up: Heads rolled this week at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. Board director Michael Vu resigned and top assistant Gwen Dillingham was ousted in the wake of serious problems replacing punch card ballots with new electronic voting devices. Vu will remain with the board as a consultant until the county can hire his replacement.

Contractor Penalty: A Cleveland City Council member wants to bar three local companies accused of participating in a minority contractor scam during recent construction at Hopkins International Airport. The Mayor's office wants to bar the companies from receiving city contracts for two years. Councilman Mike Dolan wants a permanent ban.

Ford Founders: January sales figures show Ford falling to number four among companies selling cars to American customers. Toyota leapfrogged Ford to the number two spot and appears to be on track to pass General Motors for the lead. It's a big-time challenge for the Big Three.

Frozen Tundra: Most of Ohio shivered through an icy week with temperatures dipping below zero overnight and hovering in the single digits or low teens most of the week. Hundreds of schools called off classes rather than submit children to the rigors of walking to schools or bus stops in dangerously cold winds. Chilly temperatures and slippery roads have contributed to 14 deaths around the country, five in Ohio.
