Feagler and Friends - Convention Center: The Buck Started Here

Guest 1: Tim Hagan, former Cuyahoga County Commissioner

The city's political and business leaders cut the ribbon last week on the new Cleveland Convention Center. Combined with the next-door Global Center for Health Innovation, it provides a million square feet of exhibition, display and meeting space whose most visible feature is the several acres of grass that covers the convention center's roof. Largely forgotten in the excitement of the opening was Hagan, the public official who first championed the convention center and what was then known as the Medical Mart as he did the Gateway complex, the early label for Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena. Hagan had decided not to seek re-election by the time voters eliminated his job by approving a county charter in 2009.

Guest 2: Karen Kasler, Ohio Public Radio Statehouse News Bureau

Karen brings Mr. Feagler up to date on the key issues still pending with the General Assembly preparing for its summer recess at the end of June. Lawmakers have to finish action on a two-year state budget and may weigh in on issues involving Medicaid expansion and abortion.
