Tressel Leaves Ohio State

Months of scandal that's engulfed the vaunted Ohio State football program led this week to the resignation of head coach Jim Tressel, whose team won a national championship in 2002. Tressel's reputation was marred by revelations that he'd withheld information on player wrongdoing from both the university and the NCAA. The governing body of collegiate sports is still investigating and might impose sanctions on Ohio State.

Cleveland School Candidates

Mayor Frank Jackson and school board members this week interviewed the three remaining candidates for school CEO but haven't yet rendered their decision on which, if any, will be hired. School board members said the first wanted to meet again and possibly visit all three on their home turf. In one case, that would be easy. One candidate works in Lorain. The others are in Lowell, MA and Grand Rapids, MI.

Home Prices Get Termites

The recession continues for homeowners trying to sell their houses. In the greater Cleveland area, prices are down six per cent since last March and are at their lowest level of the decade. Experts don't see a substantial recovery until sometime next year.

Great Plate Debate

Ohio lawmakers are mulling the future of the front license plate. Front and rear plates have long been a fixture in Ohio and law enforcement agencies say they like it that way. But many motorists think one plate on the rear
is enough to get the job done. State officials say eliminating the front plate would save the state nearly two million dollars a year.

Newsmaker: Dick Goddard, Fox 8 Meteorologist

Cleveland's longest-running television personality has just celebrated his 50th anniversary in the business.

He grew up on a farm in rural Summit County, learned weather forecasting in the Air Force and put that skill to work in a legendary Cleveland career that he documents in his new book, Six Inches of Partly Cloudy. But the book's not all warm breezes and sunshine. He also shares non-conformist views on such issues as religion and the U.S. war effort.
