Browns Stadium

The city of Cleveland will advance the Browns nearly $6 million for repairs at Browns Stadium. The money will come from the 'sin tax' approved by voters years ago to the pay for the stadium's construction. As part of its contract with the team, the city agreed to provide nearly a million dollars-a-year for upkeep, but the Browns convinced the city that a large chunk of money needed to be spent on immediate repairs related to the area's harsh winters.

Endorsements

The Plain Dealer this week endorsed long-time Representative Marcy Kaptur in the Ninth District Congressional primary over another incumbent Dennis Kucinich and newcomer Graham Veysey. The newspaper also endorsed Toledoan Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, widely known as 'Joe the Plumber' in the Ninth District Republican primary. Wurzelbacher is opposed by Huron resident Steve Kraus.

State of the State

Governor Kasich delivered an 80-minute State of the State speech Wednesday that was remarkable for its location if not its content. He spoke at a Steubenville elementary school, Wells Academy, marking the first time a Governor has delivered the speech anywhere but Columbus. He touted his administration's first-year achievements while noting the state's economy is improving.
