Feagler and Friends - Boston Marathon Continuing Coverage

Newsmaker: Kevin Goodman, Local Runner, Boston Marathon

Early this week, two explosions ripped through the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The euphoria of crossing the finish line turned into bloody chaos as two blasts rocked the end of the 26.2-mile trek. The blasts have left more than 175 injured and three dead. In the chaotic aftermath of the explosions, passersby rushed to the rescue of the injured. The Boston Marathon is one of the largest marathons in the world, bringing in runners from different countries, states and cities, including many folks from Cleveland.

Roundtable: Rachel Dissell, Reporter, The Plain Dealer and Bob Dyer, Columnist, Akron Beacon Journal.

Boston Marathon Response

Our roundtable guest responds to the Boston Marathon explosions and what this means for Cleveland's Marathon next month.

Cleveland Rape Kits

Cleveland is scrambling to find strategies to deal with thousands of overlooked rape kits to send to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation's lab as part of Attorney General Mike DeWine's testing project. In the past, sending rape kits in cases that were not being prosecuted were sometimes seen as too costly. But now officials have sent off about half of the 3,000 kits they expect to test, and as the clock ticks on the statutes of limitation in some areas, officials say they are ready to seek justice and closure for the victims of these decade-old cases.

Schools Using 'Mindfulness'

Do you remember your teacher flickering the lights to get your class to calm down, be quiet and get focused? Well the times are a changing; at least that's what the schools in Plain Township in the Akron-Canton area thought when they implemented a practice called 'mindfulness' which is a form of meditation that involves using techniques like "belly breaths" and "mindful movements" to improve students' focus and help them better cope with their emotions. But the program has recently been halted after parents and community members raised concerns about its linkage to Eastern religions like Buddhism.

Superman's Birthday

Exactly 75 years ago, America got a hero that changed the way we viewed comics forever! Superman! And this week marks the date of the very first issue of 'Action Comics' with Superman on the cover! Over the years, Superman has gotten a major makeover and has popped up in books, movies, TV shows and video games. We wouldn't have these many years of memories in pop culture without Cleveland natives, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the creators of Superman.

Sports Wrap Up

Well another one bites the dust this week as the Cavaliers give Byron Scott the boot after 3 seasons as its head coach and a record of 64 to 166. Meanwhile the FBI and IRS start an investigation into Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam's family business, Pilot Flying J - a nationwide chain of truck stops and convenience stores.
