Robert C. Helmer, president, Baldwin Wallace University

Dr. Helmer assumed his post July 1, the same day that the Berea school declared its new status as a university. Helmer comes to Baldwin Wallace from a ten-year stint as head of Lourdes University in suburban Toledo where enrollment doubled during his tenure.

New Ruling on Early Voting:

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted is telling local elections boards across Ohio to be open for business at the same times. But the time window will not include the weekend just before the general election. Husted's ruling answers critics who complained about the hodge-podge of business hours, but it ignored critics who demand the weekend hours to accommodate early voters.

Romney and Ryan Hit the Buckeye Trail:

The full Republican ticket made Ohio its stumping ground this week. Romney made several southern Ohio stops including one in coal country where he stood against a backdrop of helmeted miners and accused President Obama of making war on coal. Congressman Paul Ryan, making his first Ohio appearances as the vice-presidential nominee, made stops at his Miami University alma mater and in North Canton.
