Deadline Now - 9-23-2016 - The Race for the Fifth and Ninth Districts

A lot of attention is being paid to the Presidential Race and to the battle for control of the U.S. Senate, but contests for the House of Representatives aren't getting as much play - especially in Northwest Ohio.

That's partly because gerrymandering has designed the Ninth District, long represented by Marcy Kaptur, to be a safe Democratic District and the Fifth District, represented for the last nine years by Bob Latta, to be a safe Republican one. In the end, despite the calculations of those who draw the district lines, only the voters get to decide who goes to Congress.

This year, two candidates have stepped up to challenge the incumbents and hope for a long shot victory. Donald Phillip Larson, an engineer and businessman from the Cleveland area, is the Republican nominee in the Ninth District, and James Neu, an auto worker from Perrysburg, is taking on Mr. Latta in the Fifth District.
