There are more than seventy million dogs in the United States, and between a third and almost half of all families have at least one. Millions, including me, would never want to live without a dog. But at the same time, more than a million unwanted dogs are put to death each year. Others are neglected or horribly abused. Some people feel that some "bad" breeds, most notoriously pit bulls, should be outlawed. Others feel there are no bad dogs, and some argue that no dog should ever be euthanized for other than medical reasons. How is the Toledo area doing in terms of responsibility to our pets and our fellow humans?
