Columbus Metropolitan Club - Vision for Columbus

Matt Habash, President, Columbus City Council

During his more than thirteen years in elected office, Columbus City Council President Matt Habash has played an active role in how Columbus confronts its civic challenges and celebrates its many successes.

President since 2000, Habash has led a City Council forced to trim government spending without jeopardize essential City services or destabilize the City's financial status.

Despite an extraordinarily turbulent national economy and shrinking federal and state funding, the City of Columbus continues to expand economic opportunities, promote public safety, and strengthen the community's social fabric. Council President Habash attributes much of that success to newly developed community and business-based partnerships.

At the forefront of this partnership-based effort is the City's recent initiative to create the 315 Research + Technology Corridor. The collaborative effort - with partners including The Ohio State University, Battelle, TechColumbus, and the City's major health care institutions - represents a historic endeavor to proactively market, promote, and grow the high-tech job sector in Central Ohio.

As City Council enters its Fall legislative session, President Habash will share the lessons of this partnership-based approach to economic growth and community service. He will also lay out his vision for Columbus, as he asks more people in both the public and private sectors to reach a higher ground by finding a common ground.
