Experiments in schools are at least as old as the first science class, but "experimental schools" are still making news in many communities, including Columbus.

Last August 28, 104 freshman walked through the doors of "Metro High," aspiring to be its first graduation class in 2009. The students came from 14 of the 16 public school districts in Franklin County; they came from home schools, private and charter schools to populate the new student body made up of 48 percent nonwhite and 41 percent females.

Establish through a partnership of Franklin County Schools, Ohio State University and Battelle, the math and science-focused school located at 1929 Kenny Road plans to add a class of about 100 each year.
So how's it going? What make this school different that other Franklin County schools? Are goals for the school being met? How do the kids feel about it by now? Will other kids (and their parents) be clamoring to get in or for more schools like it?

Let's find out on January 10 when our guest panel, including one Metro High student, talks about the school's innovative approach to learning.
