Columbus Metropolitan Club - Columbus School Board Debate October 24, 2007

Columbus public schools has improved its rating to "continuous improvement;" however; student enrollment is declining and fiscal viability is a constant concern with budget tightening one of the few remedies. Rising health-care costs could lead to tough contract negotiations with teachers when their contract expires in August. As the operating levy expires next year, too, the school board must determine how much to seek from voters if it's to continue rebuilding and renovating old schools.

The serious challenges that lay ahead for the election winners are clear, the candidates and their visions for success - both educational and financial - are not. Eight candidates are vying for four, four-year terms, while two battle to finish a two-year term vacated by Andrew Ginther who moved to City Council.
CMC welcomes you to hear from all ten candidates Gary L. Baker II, Terry A. Boyd, Bill Buckel, Jeff Cabot, W. Shawna Gibbs, Stephanie Groce, Michael J. King, Carol L. Perkins, Jarrod Weiss and Mike Wiles, as Mike Thompson, News Director from WOSU Public Media moderates a lively debate.
