Columbus Metropolitan Club - By the Rivers of Babylon: Renewal Amidst the Ruins

Dr. Paul E. Schroeder, Co-Founder, Families of the Fallen for Change and Professor, Case Western Reserve University

After the death of their son in Iraq, Dr. Paul E. Schroeder and his wife Rosemary Palmer moved from quiet support for their son to speaking out for change.

The couple founded Families of the Fallen for Change after the death of Marine LCPL Edward "Augie" Schroeder. Augie was with the First Squad, Third Platoon, Lima Company, based in Columbus. Fourteen members of that squad were killed in a single explosion August 3, 2005.

Since its launch in November 2005, Families of the Fallen for Change has grown to 1,400 members nationwide. Its members include families and friends of fallen Marines and soldiers as well as veterans of every rank.

Using Iraq as only a backdrop, Schroeder will discuss issues important to America's future in an increasingly smaller world.

A China specialist at Case Western Reserve University, Schroeder holds a doctorate in Chinese politics and international relations from The Ohio State University.
