Columbus Metropolitan Club - Back to School: Annual State of the District Address

Dr. Gene Harris, Superintendent, Columbus Public Schools

It seems everyone agrees that successful Columbus Public Schools are germane to a successful, thriving Columbus. It also seems that Columbus Public Schools are under constant scrutiny.

With 59,000 students, a budget exceeding $600 million, 139 school buildings being served by more than 10,000 full and part-time employees, monitoring, managing and leading the system is a Herculean task.

Dr. Gene Harris has been at that task since she was hired as the district's Superintendent in 2001. Under her leadership the schools are marking significant progress.

Current goals of the system include quality instruction; committed leadership; student motivation; efficient, equitable operations and parent and community involvement.

Again, Herculean goals in any school system. Dr. Harris believes that together we can and will create an urban model of educational excellence right here in Columbus, Ohio.
