City Club of Cleveland - The Honorable Jennifer Brunner

Jennifer Brunner is an attorney whose practice in election law prepared her well for her role as Ohio's Secretary of State; she was elected twice as a Judge of the Franklin County Common Pleas Court where she pioneered the practice of allowing jurors to ask questions and started the county's first adult felony drug court.

On November 7, 2006, Brunner became the first woman to hold the office of Ohio Secretary of State. Soon after taking office, she demanded the resignation of all members of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections - a demand that ultimately led to a new board that now serves as a model for the state. She also created, "Better Lives, Better Ohio," the first-ever in the nation web-based index of life quality indicators for jobs and progress in helping Ohio return to prosperity.

Today, she is seeking the Democratic Party's nomination for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Sen. George Voinovich.
