Climate change and the nation's dependence on foreign sources of energy constitutes a serious threat-militarily, socially, and economically. Burning through more than 300,000 barrels of oil per day, the Department of Defense accounts for nearly 80% of the government's total energy consumption and estimates say American taxpayers spend between $67 and $83 billion each year deploying service members on oil-security missions overseas. How does over dependence on fossil fuels put the United States at risk and what are the economic opportunities of addressing our reliance on foreign oil?
