Mary Jo White
Chair, Debevoise & Plimpton LLP

Mary Jo White, chair of the 222-lawyer litigation group of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York City, will give an insider's perspective on the topic "Liberty Under Law: Separate Branches, Balanced Powers."

Prior to this position, White served as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1993 to 2002; she was the first woman to serve in that position in what is widely recognized as the premier U.S. Attorney's office in the nation. She led prosecutions against John Gotti and other organized crime members, the terrorists responsible for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, and those responsible for the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in Africa, including Osama Bin Laden.

White is the recipient of the George W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism and the Sandra Day O'Connor Award for Distinction in Public Service. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from the College of Williams & Mary, her master's degree in psychology from the New School for Social Research and her law degree from Columbia Law School.
