All Sides with Ann Fisher - 11:00 AM - The Paleolithic Diet: Caught in the Stone Age?

Play

When we think of how our ancestors used to survive, we think of their problems with keeping warm or protecting themselves from predators. We don't necessarily consider cavemen as sufferers of health afflictions like diabetes, and obesity. That our ancestors seem healthier has led many to experiment with following, as close as possible, a "Paleolithic Diet." This includes grass-fed pasture raised meats, fish, vegetables, fruit, roots, and nuts, and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, salt, refined sugar, and processed oils.

But is this good for us and is it really what our ancestors ate? Later, we'll hear from a nutritionist and author, Marion Nestle, about whether or not this diet could prove beneficial.

We'll also talk with Kristen Gremillion. Kristen is a Professor at OSU in the Anthropology Department. Kristen has written a book about our ancestor's diets.
Guests:

* Kristen Gremillion (OSU Anthropology Professor and author)
* Marion Nestle (NYU Professor of Nutrition and Author)
