The Sound of Ideas

Description
The five major hospitals and educational institutions in Northeast Ohio have embarked on a major collaboration, aiming to bring jobs, talent, and research to our region. The partnership for what's been called the Cleveland Innovation District includes the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, MetroHealth, Case Western Reserve University, and Cleveland State University.

It's funded in part by the state of Ohio, which is contributing $155 million, and JobsOhio, which is giving $110 million more.

Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic is making a $300 million investment, part of which will fund a new Global Center for Pathogen Research & Human Health, to be built on its East Side campus, and which is where innovative bio-research is expected to take place.

The other hospitals and university partners involved will also contribute potential millions to the initiative, which Governor Mike DeWine at the January announcement said could bring an economic impact of $3 billion to Cleveland and to Ohio as a whole. The other stated goal is to bring 20,000 more jobs to Ohio, within the next decade.

This hour on the Sound of Ideas, we'll get the chance to hear from the heads of these five institutions about their roles in the District, and how they plan to work together on jobs, talent, research, and making healthcare better and more equitable

Dr. Cliff Megerian, M.D., CEO, University Hospitals
Dr. Akram Boutros, M.D., president and CEO, MetroHealth
