Description
Eight people got new jobs in Ohio this week, as the JobsOhio board was named and had its first meeting. A bill banning abortions once it's thought a fetus can survive outside the womb cleared will soon be delivered to Gov. Kasich. The interim boss is the new boss at the state Board of Education, after a somewhat confusing interview process in which two of three finalists dropped out - one at the last minute. If an Ohioan who's not a biological parent wants custody of a child after a couple breaks up, the Ohio Supreme Court says that person better have an explicit written agreement from a biological parent granting custody.

Supporters of the new state budget have been taking a victory lap in the days after its signing by Gov. John Kasich. But opponents say it's a devastating spending plan for local governments and public schools, and it will hurt many vulnerable people, such as those who depend on mental health services and food banks. Three leaders of groups that serve that population talk about the budget: Executive Director Joel Potts of the Ohio Job and Family Services Directors Association, Executive Director Lisa Hamler-Fugitt of the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Food Banks and Scott Britton of Advocates for Ohio's Future, a coalition of hundreds of social services organizations.
