The Sound of Ideas

Description
Lead paint poisoning is an old problem affecting many Rust Belt cities. But in Cuyahoga County there is a new and troubling twist: Federal money to remove lead risks from houses runs out on May 31, 2015.

For decades, Cuyahoga County has been awarded federal grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, to remediate old and dilapidated houses. But in the last round, Cleveland lost out on these grants for the first time in the program's history.

ideastream's health team examines this issue, researches its impact on area families and talks with the experts all this week and on The Sound of Ideas.

Guests:

Nick Castele, ideastream

Kay Colby, ideastream

Dorr Dearborn, MD, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Environmental Health Sciences, CWRU; Chair of Task Force on Educating Lead Poisoned Children

John Sobolewski, Cuyahoga County Supervisor, Lead, Healthy Homes

Sarah Jane Tribble, ideastream
