The Lincoln School Story with Melvin Barnes of Ohio Humanities
The Lincoln School Story tells the inspiring story of a group of courageous African American mothers' fight for school integration in 1954 in the town of Hillsboro, Ohio. Their lawsuit against the school board was one of the first test cases of the historic Brown v. Board of Education decision. Despite segregationist redistricting, cross burnings, job losses and legal threats, they marched for two years in one of the longest sustained civil rights actions in American history. Following the screening, Ohio Humanities Program Officer Dr. Melvin Barnes, Jr. leads a question-and-answer session with the audience.
