The Ohioana Library is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and promoting the written work of Ohio's writers, artists and musicians. Each year, the Library hosts the Ohioana Book Awards to recognize the accomplishments of talented Ohioans. Awards are presented for fiction, nonfiction, juvenile books, poetry, and books about Ohio or Ohioans.
Three of the 2011 Ohioana award recipients joined Writers Talk to discuss their works:
- Ted Gup (nonfiction)
Gup, a native of Canton, is the chair of the Journalism Department at
Emerson College in Boston, MA. His book, "A Secret Gift: How One Man's Kindness - And a Trove of Letters - Revealed the Hidden Story of the Great Depression," reveals a family mystery and shares the impact the author's grandfather had on a small American community during the 1930s.
- David Young (poetry)
"Field of Light & Shadow: Selected New Poems" is Young's 11th book of poetry. He has been writing poetry for 50 years and also claimed the Ohioana Book Award for Poetry in 1988.
- Tricia Springstubb (juvenile literature)
"What Happened on Fox Street" follows one tumultuous summer in the life of 9-year-old Mo Wren and her fictional Cleveland neighborhood. Springstubb is a native of New York City but currently resides in Cleveland.
