The State of Ohio - Household Sewage Systems; Ohio State Fair; Riffe Autobiography

HEADLINES: The state intern blamed in the scare over the theft of a device containing sensitive data on more than a million Ohioans is speaking out - on paper. Jacob Ilovar says he's a scapegoat, but the governor disagrees. Two important decisions came out this week from the Ohio Supreme Court - one on domestic violence as it applies to unmarried couples living together and the other on real child porn versus "virtual" child porn. Hundreds of thousands of cans of chili that may be contaminated with bacteria that can cause botulism has been distributed to low-income families across the state. And farmers in all of Ohio's 88 counties are eligible for low-interest emergency loans to recoup losses from a freeze in April that damaged fruits and other crops.

SEGMENT 1: Though environmentalists say they were pleased with the state budget, there was one issue that left them p-o'ed. Lawmakers decided to put off a plan that would set statewide standards on household sewage systems, a proposal that some rural residents said would cost them tens of thousands of dollars. Chris Korleski, the director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and Jack Shaner with the Ohio Environmental Council talk about it, and about the mercury threat from compact fluorescent light bulbs.

SEGMENT 2: From the indoor environment back to the outdoors now, and throughout most of Ohio, it hasn't felt much like mid-summer. But that's made for good days for those planning and putting together the state's annual summertime tradition, the Ohio State Fair. Fair general manager Virgil Strickler runs down the highlights.

SEGMENT 3: It was almost a decade ago that one of the most influential and powerful politicians to ever sit in the Statehouse passed away. Former Democratic House Speaker Vern Riffe, who served in the House from 1959 to 1995, described himself as a "hillbilly" who rose to the top and made a difference. He wrote his autobiography before he died. Riffe's former spokesperson Cliff Treyens is the co-author and talks about the book.
