Remarkable Ohio - Indian Trails of Clinton County

Play

From as early as the seventeenth century, the Clinton County area of Southwestern Ohio was a major activity center for Native Americans of the Shawnee, Miami, and Delaware tribes.

Early traces and trails developed as natives traveled from village to village; gathered flint, salt and gold; traded furs, mica, and feldspar; and hunted bear, deer, otters, raccoons, foxes, wild cats, and other wildlife.

Major Native American Traces and Trails in Clinton County inspired the routes that became today's highways including Old SR 73, US 22, SR 72 and SR 132.
