Hanby House in Westerville is maintained as a memorial honoring composer Benjamin Russell Hanby. Hanby was an Otterbein College graduate, class of 1858, and minster of the United Brethren Church. But he was best known as a songwriter - famous throughout the world for penning the inspiring songs, "Darling Nelly Gray," "Who is He in Yonder Stall," and the Christmas song, "Up on the Housetop." The house was built in 1846 and was occupied by the Hanby family from 1853 to 1870. It has been open to the public since 1937. Benjamin R. Hanby died in 1867 and is buried in Westerville, Ohio.
