Segments 1 & 2: Kinship Care is a term we use to describe when a relative, or another adult who has had a long-standing and close relationship with a child, assumes the full-time care and responsibility for that child, usually because the parents are unable or unwilling to do so. But kinship care is so much more than what is conveyed in this formal definition. Nearly 200,000 relatives and family friends have made this courageous and life-changing decision to become the primary caregiver for children they cherish.
Crystal Allen, the Executive Director of the Public Children Services Association of Ohio, shares her insight on kinship care in the first segment. Denise Harris and her granddaughter Daija Roberts share their experiences in the second segment with a personal view of kinship care.
Segment 3: Adult day services are community-based group programs designed to provide social and some health services to adults who need supervised care in a safe place during the day. This vital resource often allows caregivers to work or complete daily tasks and chores they otherwise would be unable to do. They also afford caregivers respite from the demanding responsibilities of caregiving. However it is a service that many aren't even aware exists.
Erica Drewry, the president of the Ohio Association of Adult Day Services and executive director of Heritage Day Health Centers, and Annette Washington, a caregiver whose loved ones attend adult day services, shed light on this worthy service.
Segment 4: All the coverage and campaign commercials of the Presidential Election can be overwhelming. Many wonder how we can find our way through all the campaign rhetoric to make our election decisions based on facts. Peg Rosenfield, the election specialist for the League of Women Voters of Ohio, gives suggestions on how to do just that!
