Feagler and Friends - More Serial Killings in Northeast Ohio

Newsmaker: Mayor Gary Norton, City of East Cleveland

As Northeast Ohio recovers from the shock of the recent Ariel Castro kidnappings and the Anthony Sowell case four years ago, another heinous crime is making national headlines. Police discovered three decomposing bodies in an East Cleveland neighborhood, all identified as young women and all linked to the suspect, Michael Madison who is being held on $6 million bond. He reportedly claims to have been influenced by Cleveland's most recent serial killer, Anthony Sowell.

Serial Killings in East Cleveland

Our roundtable guests react to the East Cleveland Serial killings.

Canceling Coventry Fair

The popular Coventry Family Arts Fair has been canceled for a second year in a row due to safety concerns. After monitoring violent and negative chatter on social media, Cleveland Heights decided to cancel the event that was set to happen last weekend. Their sensitivity is triggered by the 2011 flash mob of hundreds of kids that congregated the streets during the festival, which resulted in the arrest of 16 teenagers for fighting and drinking. The annual festival has been going on for more than forty years.

Kasich's Road Plan

Ohio roads are on the fast track for improvement as this week Governor Kasich announced a $3 billion transportation plan that will push forward many highway and bridge projects that have been delayed for years, including a massive makeover for Interstate 76/77 in Akron. Bonds backed by the Ohio Turnpike will jump-start 14 projects in northern Ohio over the next two years and free up cash for further projects in central and southern Ohio. Turnpike money would also pay for a big part of Cleveland Opportunity Corridor, linking Interstate 490 and University Circle through Cleveland's East Side.

Tax Break for Homeschoolers

Should homeschoolers pay the price? A state lawmaker thinks they shouldn't and wants to give a tax break to property owners who home-school their children. State Senator Kris Jordan introduced a bill that would reduce property taxes for parents who home-school their kids that is equal to the amount they pay for school levies in their local districts. But some are arguing that homeschoolers shouldn't get a free pass since Ohioans who choose nonpublic schools or childless homeowners don't get that same option.

Issues in the Middle East

The chaotic developments in Egypt following the overthrow of ex-president Mohammed Morsi are of huge significance to the wider region. The Middle East is grappling with the stalled push for democracy as the Arab Spring loses its steam, and polarization grows between Islamist parties and secular groups.
