Feagler and Friends - Impact of the Supreme Court Health Care Ruling

Mr. Feagler's special guest: John Corlett, VP of Government Relations and Community Affairs, The MetroHealth System

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the key provision of health care reform when it upheld the individual mandate to buy health insurance. 26 states including Ohio had challenged the federal government's authority to require people to buy health insurance and levy a fine if they don't. The court's 5 to 4 majority see the potential fine as a tax and, as such, constitutional. The ruling also forbids the federal government penalizing states that refuse to expand Medicaid.

How Hospitals Compute Bills

A Plain Dealer series this week took a look at the complicated steps involved in assembling a hospital bill to be paid by insurance, the patient, often both. The various steps leading to the bottom line can involve hundreds of people, some of them far removed from the actual process of caregiving. Sometimes, mistakes are made.

New Poll Shows Obama with Big Ohio Lead:

Quinnipiac University's latest poll shows President Obama with a nine per cent lead lover Mitt Romney among registered Ohio voters.
That's a big change from a previous poll that showed the two virtually even. Senator Sherrod Brown enjoys a 16 per cent lead over Republican challenger Josh Mandel. A national average compiled by Real Clear Politics shows Obama with a lead of less than four per cent.

Rage Against the Machine:

Anyone who's ridden RTA's Health Line has run afoul of the terminals that collect fares and dispense tickets. Customers have found the machines complicated and uncomfortable to use. RTA officials second that emotion. They're demanding changes from the machines' manufacturer, Xerox and Xerox says it's working on solutions.
