Feagler and Friends - Favorite Interviews

A special edition of Feagler & Friends-Mr. Feagler looks back at some of his favorite 2011 interviews.

Guest 1: Rev. Marvin McMickle

The longtime pastor of Antioch Baptist Church becomes president of the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, NY, a Protestant seminary. McMickle was at Antioch Baptist since 1987 and has been a force in both religious and civic life in Cleveland. Three times, he tried to launch a political career with runs at the U.S. House and Senate, but all three failed. He's served on many boards and commissions, including the trustee board at Cleveland State University and he's held visiting faculty positions at numerous colleges and universities, all while serving as spiritual leader of one of Cleveland's largest black churches.

Guest 2: George V. Voinovich, former United States Senator

George Voinovich retired at the end of 2010, ending a political career that stretched back to the 1960s. A lifelong Clevelander, he served as a Cuyahoga County auditor and commissioner, a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, Mayor of Cleveland, Lt. Governor and Governor; finally 12 years representing Ohio as a moderate voice in the Senate. As Mayor, he led the city of Cleveland out of default in the late 70s. He was one of the most popular Governors in state history, winning re-election with only token opposition. He looked back on his career with Mr. Feagler.

Guest 3: Bruce Akers, Mayor of Pepper Pike

After two decades as a civic leader, Bruce Akers is retiring as mayor of Pepper Pike. During his tenure, Akers has been a prominent advocate of regional cooperation between local governments, arguing that cities should share services, such as trash pick-up and police dispatching. More recently, he backed the idea of possibly merging his city with three other suburbs, an idea that's still under discussion.
