Feagler and Friends - Captain America Changes Cleveland

Newsmaker: Rick Schmahl, Chief Information Officer, City of Akron

Nowadays we put our most private and intimate information on our work and home computers, where we think everything is protected and kept safe but in reality it's not. Hackers have been snatching up people's private information for over a decade and early this week the City of Akron experienced one of these cyber-attacks. Thousands of files-including names, addresses, Social Security and credit-card numbers, have been stolen by a Turkish hacking group. Some of those files were even posted on the internet for others to see.

Boy Scouts

The Boy Scouts of America recently ended its longstanding policy of forbidding openly gay youths to participate in its activities. The decision, which came after years of resistance and wrenching internal debate, was widely seen as a milestone for the Boy Scouts, a symbol of traditional America. But critics still say the vote is not good enough because it fails to end exclusion of openly gay and lesbian adults as troop leaders.
Captain America

Cleveland is in for another action-packed summer with the filming of the sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The local shooting frenzy is spurred by the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit. Captain America has been approved for a $9.5 million tax credit, bigger than that granted for The Avengers last summer. So has Cleveland's 15 minutes of fame boosted the economy? Are all the traffic detours, blocked off streets, and inconvenienced drivers worth the return on the investment?
Bulletproof Backpacks

One item on some parents' back-to-school list for their kids in the fall might be a bulletproof backpack. After the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut, where 20 students and six adults were killed, some parents are feeling the need to prepare their kids to face the unfortunate reality that they could one day be a target. But some say these bulletproof backpacks could feed children's fear and suspicion of their peers and the world around them.

Newsmaker 2:

Bob Reid, Former County Sheriff, Cuyahoga County

Former Cuyahoga County Sheriff Bob Reid recently announced that he's planning to run for the Cuyahoga County Executive position. County executive Ed FitzGerald will leave the job in 2014 when he runs for governor. Reid has contemplated running for the position since April and says his 25 years of experience in city and county affairs qualifies him for the job.
