Columbus Metropolitan Club - 8-18-2021 - Unpacking Ohio's New Biennial State Budget

Early on the morning of July 1st, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine formally signed Ohio's new $74.1 billion biennial budget into effect. The two-year spending plan invests in broadband internet access, brings changes to how dollars for K-12 education are allocated in the state, and cuts income taxes for Ohioans. The budget gave a huge boost to mental health services in Appalachia, but also gave healthcare providers the ability to refuse to administer medical services to patients if the services violate practitioners' religious beliefs. Just how will the new budget impact business, education, healthcare, and other crucial growth areas in Ohio over the next two years and beyond? Join CMC live and in-person as our panel of experts unpacks Ohio's new budget, discusses its impact and implications, and answers your questions about this milestone moment in Ohio politics.

Featuring Emilia Sykes, Minority Leader, 34th District, Ohio House of Representatives; Hannah Halbert, Executive Director, Policy Matters Ohio with host Karen Kasler, Bureau Chief, Ohio Statehouse News Bureau
